ADP is a crystal widely used in the optical field because it has double refraction properties. Because of its tetragonal crystal structure, this material has negativeiaxial optical symmetry, with the typical refractive indices of n ≈ 1.522 and ne ≈ 1.478 at optical wavelengths.
P crystals are piezoelectric, which is a property needed in some active sonar sensors, the other being the use of magnetostrictive transducers.
